Reading books can help increase your artistic talent.

Most of us have artistic skills or talents that we have always dreamed of acquiring or improving upon, but it can be difficult and costly to take classes. Perhaps you want to become a better action photographer, or learn to develop your own photographs. Perhaps you want to learn to draw or work with oil paints. Perhaps you want to teach yourself the art of quilting. Whatever your interests are, there are books available to help you acquire these new skills or improve upon your existing talent. Granted, for certain skills a class or two can be very helpful and sometimes even necessary. You may want to learn the finer safety techniques involved with taking action portraits, metal welding or wood working with powerful circular saws and other equipment to prevent yourself from setting out on your own and possibly injuring yourself. However, books can provide a completely adequate and helpful tutorial to aid you in picking up many new artistic skills. You can learn most of the basics for taking great action portraits by reading and then fine tune your skills with a class or two. It is also great to learn or improve upon your artistic skills through reading from the masters because you make your own schedule.

Whenever you have a spare moment you can pull it out and read a few pages so you don't have the difficulty of finding a class that fits with your timetable. You can also find books written by people who would be well out of your league or financial range to hire for a personal lesson, thus getting higher quality instruction at a fraction of the cost. Whether you buy texts used or new, they are still much cheaper than classes. If you miss the feedback of other action photographers or instructors, you can find many groups of artists online giving each other advice, discussing techniques and evaluating each others' photographs and art work. There are perhaps even more groups online to support crafters. Whether you are quilting, sewing, scrapbooking or reupholstering furniture, there are plenty of online communities to provide you with support and advice. Books are also a great way to learn about some of your artistic heroes. Maybe you adore the paintings of Salvador Dali or the photographs of Ansel Adams.

Reading about the techniques, histories and evolution of style of some of your favourite artists can be a wonderful way to find inspiration as well. Not to mention a great way to take a break from your technical learning and enjoy a good story from time to time between working on your action portraits, working and taking care of the kids. All kinds of books, be they fiction, non-fiction or educational can be a great way to relax and unwind. Why not take the initiative to increase your artistic skill level or acquire a new artistic ability like taking action portraits the next time you buy a book from the store. I guarantee you will find it fulfilling and enjoyable.
